This figure of Durga recalls those of Indian artist Jamini Roy. The facial features are highly stylised and symmetrical, while the shapes of the lion and water-buffalo are created from minimal bold lines.","physicalDescription":"This rectangular painting shows Durga as the central figure seated on a lion, spearing the demon Mahishasura who is hiding in the buffalo below her. The faces of the figures are heavily stylised; Durga is drawn with slanted almond shaped eyes and a very symmetrical body with ten arms. The use of colour is bold and shows a predominance of red, blue, green and yellow. There is evidence of shading to indicate volume on the exposed skin parts of the Durga figure.
