According to the artist, the clay came from Montelupo Fiorentino. The piece was fired in her kiln of the time with a drip feed kerosene burner. The work is part of a series of vases on pedestals named after Tuscan towns, which Woodman considers to have an important place within her oeuvre. The stand is based on one that Woodman had bought at an ?Italian flea market and that had been used as a household shrine. Arezzo was shown at the Max Protetch Gallery in New York in 1985. Betty Woodman lives and works in both New York City and in Florence, Italy.","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Urn and stand sculpture 'Arezzo', earthenware, by Betty Woodman, Florence, 1984","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"","id":""},"details":"p. 175","free":"Morineau, Camille and Pesapane, Lucia eds. Ceramix: Art and Ceramics from Rodin to Schütte.
