The tapestry is filled with a trophy of a lion-skin draped over a shield with an elephant's tusk, spears, one of which pierces an exotic bird, a golden ewer, shells, a snake, an ostrich egg, feathers, jewels and a chain with open manacles. Flanking the trophy are tall stems of corn and carved seated figures which are part of the architectural framework in terracotta covered with blue 'hieroglyphs' which form the border. The background is of a greenish-cream, and pale green and brown are the predominant colours. Woven in wool and silk on a cotton weft, 18 to 20 warp threads to the inch.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"de Lamornaix, Charles Sallandrouze","id":"AUTH349649"},"association":{"text":"producer","id":"AAT197742"},"note":""},{"name":{"text":"Amedee, Jean-Baptiste","id":"AUTH349650"},"association":{"text":"designed","id":"x40048"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"wool and silk","id":"x30487"}],"techniques":[{"text":"weaving","id":"AAT53642"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Tapestry woven in wool and silk on cotton","categories":[{"text":"Textiles","id":"THES48885"},{"text":"Tapestry","id":"THES48887"},{"text":"Wall coverings","id":"THES48878"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"T&F","id":"THES48601"},"images":["2017JX9308","2017JX9309","2017JX9311","2017JX9315","2017JX9316","2012FT6154","2012FT6120"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"003","id":"THES325621"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Tapestry","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"France","id":"x28849"},"association":{"text":"designed","id":"x29338"},"note":""},{"place":{"text":"Aubusson","id":"x37298"},"association":{"text":"woven","id":"AAT53642"},"note":"probably\r\n"}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1855","earliest":"1855-01-01","latest":"1855-12-31"},"association":{"text":"designed","id":"x29338"},"note":"probably"}],"associatedObjects":[{"object":{"text":"T.209-1969","id":"O124139"},"association":"Group"}],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Width","value":"1425","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"top edge","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"1405","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"bottom edge","note":""},{"dimension":"Weight","value":"14","unit":"kg","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Length","value":"2915","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"proper right","note":""},{"dimension":"Length","value":"2880","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"proper left","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"From a set of continents.
