Both sets are probably early examples of the work of the Japanese cloisonné artist Namikawa Yasuyuki. \r\n\r\nWith this pair, however, the surface of the vases is more regularly covered with wires. The tight overall application of the brass wires and the polychrome cloisonné enamel colour scheme perhaps show some further technological advances. The areas below the rim and above the base-plate are both elegantly decorated with stylised chrysanthemums. The black enamel and the butterflies on the central band of the vases later became key features of the work of Namikawa Yasuyuki.","physicalDescription":"One of a pair of copper-bodied vases with brass wires and cloisonné enamel decoration.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Namikawa Yasuyuki","id":"A3767"},"association":{"text":"maker","id":"AAT251917"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"copper","id":"AAT11020"}],"techniques":[{"text":"cloisonné","id":"AAT53778"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Copper, brass and cloisonné enamel","categories":[{"text":"Enamels","id":"THES48876"},{"text":"Metalwork","id":"THES48920"}],"styles":[{"text":"Meiji","id":"AAT18567"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"EAS","id":"THES48596"},"images":["2006AC8433","2006AC5443"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"004","id":"THES363968"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Vase","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Japan","id":"x29399"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""},{"place":{"text":"Kyoto","id":"x31966"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":"probably"}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"ca. 1870-1880","earliest":"1865-01-01","latest":"1880-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"8.6","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"Bequeathed by Joshua Dixon, accessioned in 1886.
