The use of salt-glazed stoneware, however, recalls German pottery of the Renaissance period. It was later illustrated in the publications by Philippe Burty and Digby Wyatt as wall as by Ziegler himself, as an example of the Alhambresque style. Ziegler, a painter, architect and lithographer, turned potter, specialising in salt-glazed stoneware, during a visit to Germany.
