It was the first of the series to be developed primarily for the Dreamcast console, instead of a Sony one. The gamer plays the character Claire Redfield, searching for her brother Chris, in a facility owned by the evil Umbrella Corporation, while trying to escape an outbreak of the T-virus that turns people into zombies. This episode was categorised as a 15 by the British Board of Film Classification. <i>Resident Evil</i> has spawned numerous video games, books, films and toys and has sold over 45 million units.\r\n\r\nAs with all Dreamcast game releases, it was produced on a GD-ROM disc, the only home system to use this format, which doubled the capacity of a normal CD-ROM by packing the pits on the disc more closely together. At the time of the Dreamcast's release (1998), implementing DVD-ROM technology was considered too costly. This may have resulted in the Dreamcast's downfall, compared to the DVD capabilities of Sony's Playstation 2, released merely a year later.","physicalDescription":"","artistMakerPerson":[],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Eidos Interactive","id":"A40080"},"association":{"text":"distributor","id":"x29579"},"note":""},{"name":{"text":"Capcom Co., Ltd.","id":"A40085"},"association":{"text":"developers (video games)","id":"x48037"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"","categories":[{"text":"Entertainment & Leisure","id":"THES48959"},{"text":"Children & Childhood","id":"THES48980"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"YVA","id":"THES48593"},"images":[],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"005","id":"THES343678"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"005","id":"THES343678"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"005","id":"THES343678"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"005","id":"THES343678"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"005","id":"THES343678"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"005","id":"THES343678"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"optical disc","id":"x48004"}],[{"text":"computer game","id":""}],[{"text":"pamphlets","id":"AAT220572"}],[{"text":"sheets (information artifacts)","id":"AAT189648"}],[{"text":"sheets (information artifacts)","id":"AAT189648"}],[{"text":"boxes (containers)","id":"AAT45643"}],[{"text":"optical disc","id":"x48004"}],[{"text":"computer game","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Japan","id":"x29399"},"association":{"text":"developed","id":"x48036"},"note":""},{"place":{"text":"UK","id":"x29336"},"association":{"text":"Released","id":"x46965"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"2000","earliest":"2000-01-01","latest":"2000-12-31"},"association":{"text":"developed","id":"x48036"},"note":""},{"date":{"text":"2000","earliest":"2000-01-01","latest":"2000-12-31"},"association":{"text":"Released","id":"x46965"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by Kristian Volsing","dimensions":[],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Video game, Resident Evil - Code: Veronica, for Dreamcast, made in E.U., 2000.","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"Mass produced","id":"THES48863"},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["B.41:5-2011","B.41:4-2011","B.41:3-2011","B.41:2-2011","B.41:1-2011","B.41:6-2011"],"accessionNumberNum":"41","accessionNumberPrefix":"B","accessionYear":2011,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE","optical disc [1]","pamphlets","sheets (information artifacts) [1]","sheets (information artifacts) [2]","boxes (containers)","optical disc [2]"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2026-04-01","recordCreationDate":"2011-07-19","availableToBook":false}}
