Pharmacy was opened by Damien Hirst and Matthew Freud in 1998, in Notting Hill. The restaurant was a phenomenon, linking the gastro-world with art, design, and London’s celebrity scene. The ‘Pill Stool’, so called as it looks like a giant pill, was part of the interior seating design in the restaurant. The ‘medical’ theme continued throughout the space: the walls were covered with medicine cabinets, filled with drugs, and pharmacy-style neon signage hung outside the building.","physicalDescription":"Moulded polyurethane foam seat in a pill design with aluminium cross-shaped base","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Morrison, Jasper","id":"C17"},"association":{"text":"designer","id":"x36960"},"note":""},{"name":{"text":"Damien Hirst","id":"A5289"},"association":{"text":"concept","id":"x36192"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"Aluminium","id":"AAT11015"},{"text":"polyurethane","id":"AAT14495"}],"techniques":[{"text":"moulding","id":"x46876"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Moulded polyurethane foam seat, aluminium base","categories":[{"text":"Furniture","id":"THES48948"},{"text":"Plastic","id":"THES49026"}],"styles":[{"text":"20th century last quarter","id":"x36076"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"FWK","id":"THES48597"},"images":["2012FP3674"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"003","id":"THES342675"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Stool","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"London","id":"x28980"},"association":{"text":"designed and made","id":"x39722"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1997","earliest":"1997-01-01","latest":"1997-12-31"},"association":{"text":"designed","id":"x29338"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"47","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Diameter","value":"34.9","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"seat","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"55","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"foot","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Stool for Pharmacy Restaurant and Bar, designed by Jasper Morrison, idea by Damien Hirst, small version with cross-shaped base, 1997","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"small batch","id":"THES252237"},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["W.12-2011"],"accessionNumberNum":"12","accessionNumberPrefix":"W","accessionYear":2011,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":["2021MU9742"],"recordModificationDate":"2025-04-08","recordCreationDate":"2011-07-12","availableToBook":true}}
