It was then biscuit fired to 1020 degrees C, after which it was painted and glazed and fired again to 1120 degrees C, with a 10 minute soak to avoid crazing.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Suzanne Katkhuda","id":"AUTH315991"},"association":{"text":"designer","id":"x36960"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Holdenby Designs Ltd.","id":"AUTH316002"},"association":{"text":"manufacturer","id":"x33306"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"earthenware","id":"x29356"}],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"Red earthenware, hand-painted underglaze decoration on a cream slip","categories":[{"text":"Ceramics","id":"THES48982"},{"text":"Food vessels & Tableware","id":"THES48952"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"CER","id":"THES48594"},"images":["2011EY5929"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"139","id":"THES49874"},"free":"","case":"41","shelf":"8","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"soup bowl","id":"AAT42970"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Brixworth","id":"THES249750"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1992","earliest":"1992-01-01","latest":"1992-12-31"},"association":{"text":"designed","id":"x29338"},"note":""},{"date":{"text":"1993","earliest":"1993-01-01","latest":"1993-12-31"},"association":{"text":"introduced","id":"x47553"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by Suzanne Katkhuda","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Diameter","value":"24.6","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Height","value":"3.8","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"'Suzanne / Katkhuda'","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"In script, impressed on base"}],"objectHistory":"Tableware in the Poppy pattern was originally designed in January 1992 and produced in red, with a blue version introduced later and launched at the NEC in Birmingham in February 1993. The design was produced from the outset at Brixworth, near Northampton.\r\n\r\nHoldenby Designs was established by Suzanne Katkhuda and Jim Powell in 1987 to manufacture and sell Katkhuda's designs. The company was first based in the stable yard of Holdenby House, a stately home in Northamptonshire. These premises were rapidly outgrown, and at the end of 1991 the company moved to the nearby village of Brixworth. In 1993, further premises were acquired in Parsonage Street, Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent, where white earthenware was produced.","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Soup bowl, hand-painted earthenware, 'Blue Poppy', designed by Suzanne Katkhuda, England, 1992.","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["C.46-2011"],"accessionNumberNum":"46","accessionNumberPrefix":"C","accessionYear":2011,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2025-05-20","recordCreationDate":"2011-06-20","availableToBook":false}}
