Its superbly detailed drawing and precision dyeing make it one of the finest early export chintzes to have survived. Its sinuous tree and large imaginary blossoms are typical of the late 17th and early 18th century chintzes exported to Europe.","physicalDescription":"Rectangular palampore of painted, resist-dyed and mordant-dyed cotton chintz. With a design in shades or reds and blues of a large tree with an undulating trunk covering the whole surface. The tree rises out of a mound at the base, and has designs of fantastic fruits, flowers and leaves emerging from its branches. There is a join of selvage edges down the centre made after painting.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"cotton (textile)","id":"AAT14067"}],"techniques":[{"text":"painting (image-making)","id":"AAT54216"},{"text":"dyeing","id":"AAT53049"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Painted, resist-dyed and mordant-dyed cotton chintz","categories":[{"text":"Wall coverings","id":"THES48878"},{"text":"Textiles","id":"THES48885"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"SSEA","id":"THES48598"},"images":["2018KT1567","2006AT7651","2012FF6071","2012FR8418","2017JT8487"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"007","id":"THES329096"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Chintz palampore","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Coromandel Coast","id":"x32021"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"ca. 1700","earliest":"1695-01-01","latest":"1704-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by G.
