Trained as a painter at the Venetian Accademia (1987), he started working with glass in 1992.\r\n\r\nBianchin's sculptures often combine glass with other media, such as knitted hemp covers or stands in metal or wood which are an integrated part of the work. Works are often conceived in series, exploring a certain theme in a string of related artefacts. The human form and the human condition are examples of such recurring themes.\r\n\r\n\"Crisalforme\" are a series of unique sculptural shapes, recalling ancient effigies or idols, which can be interpreted as highly stylised, ritualistic representations of the human form.\r\nThis piece was selected as one of the finalists at the Bombay Sapphire Foundation Glass Prize 2004.","physicalDescription":"A stylised sculpture of the human figure in black glass on a turned elm-wood base","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Bianchin, Cristiano","id":"A17124"},"association":{"text":"maker","id":"AAT251917"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"glass","id":"AAT10797"},{"text":"wood","id":"AAT11914"}],"techniques":[{"text":"blown","id":"x30776"},{"text":"cut","id":"x35680"},{"text":"polished","id":"AAT53867"},{"text":"turned","id":"AAT53158"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Blown black glass, cut and belt-polished, on turned elm-wood base","categories":[{"text":"Glass","id":"THES48946"},{"text":"Sculpture","id":"THES48896"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"CER","id":"THES48594"},"images":["2006AA4317"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"004","id":"THES395874"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"004","id":"THES395874"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Sculpture","id":""}],[{"text":"Base","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Murano","id":"x29011"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"2004","earliest":"2004-01-01","latest":"2004-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by the artist","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"71.9","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"including base","note":""},{"dimension":"Height","value":"58.9","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"excluding base","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"Gift of artist\n\nHistorical significance: Cristiano Bianchin is one of the most exciting artists working with glass in Venice today (2006).
