They pieces were a part of an advertising campaign in 2000 to raise Britart.com’s profile, and the campaign won the prestigious Gold Award in the D&AD (once known as British Design & Art Direction) Awards in 2001.\r\n\r\nThe campaign avoided traditional advertsing media. Instead using so-called ambient media, the firm used stickers applied to street furniture to create new sites for art advertising. The stickers are an interesting example of contemporary advertising and graphic design, in addition to being a clever piece of art marketing material.\r\n\r\nThe stickers raise the age-old question What is art? by offering to make any object onto which a sticker can be stuck a piece of art. This campaign is advertising as irony and satire implying that nothing is to be taken too seriously, especially not art.","physicalDescription":"A sheet of 8 white stickers with black writing, in plastic packaging","artistMakerPerson":[],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Britart.com","id":"A17072"},"association":{"text":"publisher","id":"x32600"},"note":""},{"name":{"text":"Mother","id":"A17073"},"association":{"text":"designer","id":"x36960"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"Digital print on paper","categories":[{"text":"Prints","id":"THES48903"},{"text":"Advertising","id":"THES49001"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2015HJ9782"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"LVLC (VA)","id":"THES49171"},"free":"","case":"GG","shelf":"68","box":"G(I)"}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Sticker","id":""}],[{"text":"print","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"London","id":"x28980"},"association":{"text":"published","id":"x30682"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"2000-2001","earliest":"2000-01-01","latest":"2001-12-31"},"association":{"text":"published","id":"x30682"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"34.2","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"23","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"'artalizers art you can buy britart.co / Turn your office into a gallery ...'","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":""}],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"'Artalizers', stickers advertising Britart.com designed by Mother, British, 2000-2001","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[{"text":"stickers","id":"AAT207379"},{"text":"advertising","id":"AAT54347"}],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["E.727-2005"],"accessionNumberNum":"727","accessionNumberPrefix":"E","accessionYear":2005,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2025-04-16","recordCreationDate":"2006-01-03","availableToBook":false}}
