His arrogance antagonised all of his most powerful nobles, who sided with his uncle Bakhat Singh to overthrow him. He never regained the throne, and spent most of his life in exile in other parts of India. He died in Jaipur in 1773.\r\nDuring his brief reign, many portraits of Ram Singh were produced, often following the same model as this one. The towering turbans were a Jodhpur fashion of the mid-18th century.","physicalDescription":"Painting in opaque watercolour on paper, of Maharaja Ram Singh mounted on a brown horse against a green background, with six attendants on foot.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"opaque watercolour","id":"x35013"},{"text":"paint","id":"AAT15029"},{"text":"paper","id":"AAT14109"}],"techniques":[{"text":"painted","id":"x30138"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Painted in opaque watercolour on paper","categories":[{"text":"Paintings","id":"THES48917"},{"text":"Animals and Wildlife","id":"THES250852"},{"text":"Royalty","id":"THES48899"},{"text":"Bonita Trust Indian Paintings Cataloguing Project","id":"THES263148"}],"styles":[{"text":"Jodhpur","id":"AAT19035"},{"text":"Rajasthani","id":"AAT19026"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"SSEA","id":"THES48598"},"images":["2014GY3014","2006BF7529","2006BF4713","2006BC1861","2018KP0037"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"002","id":"THES403730"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"painting","id":"AAT33618"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Jodhpur","id":"x30320"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"ca. 1750","earliest":"1745-01-01","latest":"1754-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"30","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"24","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"Dimensions taken from R.Crill, Marwar Painting, p.86.","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"'R Rum Sing Jode/2'","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"handwritten on object"}],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Painting, Maharaja Ram Singh of Jodhpur on horseback, opaque watercolour on paper, Jodhpur, ca. 1750","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"","id":""},"details":"","free":"R.M.Cimino, Life at Court in Rajasthan, (Turin, CESMEO, 1985), p.6.\r\nR.Crill, Marwar Painting: A History of the Jodhpur Style (Mumbai, India Book House, 2000), p.86."},{"reference":{"text":"Jackson, Anna and Ji Wei (eds.) with Rosemary Crill, Ainsley M.
