Llewelyn-Bowen is best known for his appearances on the BBC design make-over television programme <i>Changing Rooms</i>. After studying at Alleyn's School in Dulwich and graduating from Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts in 1986 he went on to work for the Harefield Group of Companies (a specialist manufacturer of industrial flooring and doors) and the interior design firm Peter Leonard Associates. In 1989 Laurence started his own design consultancy and in 1996 he appeared on the first episode of <i>Changing Rooms</i>.  \r\n\r\nThe design of this card reflects the flamboyant dandyish style with which he has become associated through his books and television appearances.","physicalDescription":"Sealed with a sticker bearing the Llewelyn-Bowen insignia (a Welsh dragon) this double fold Christmas card has on the front a baroque chair, gifts and a candlestick in silhouette against a swirling, Celtic patterned background in tones of orange and pink. When opened the elaborate Baroque aesthetic is continued. Llewelyn-Bowen, who is accompanied by his wife and two daughters (again all in silhouette), can be seen gesturing dismissively as Santa Clause leaves the scene.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Llewelyn-Bowen, Laurence","id":"A17052"},"association":{"text":"designer","id":"x36960"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"card","id":"x30344"}],"techniques":[{"text":"colour printing","id":"AAT53329"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Double folded card","categories":[{"text":"Christmas","id":"THES48977"},{"text":"Greeting cards","id":"THES48944"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":[],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"LVLC","id":"THES49171"},"free":"","case":"GG","shelf":"258","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Christmas cards","id":"AAT26782"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"England","id":"x28826"},"association":{"text":"printed","id":"AAT53319"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"2000-2005","earliest":"2000-01-01","latest":"2005-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by Christopher Wilk","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"21.9","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"closed","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"14.7","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"closed","note":""},{"dimension":"Height","value":"21.9","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"open","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"29.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"\"It may seem brutal but Christmas guests who don't look good with the new wallpaper really should be asked to leave\"","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"Printed on the inside of the card running along the bottom of the image"},{"content":"Merry Christmas / love Jackie / Laurence x","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"Signed inside the card over the central image"}],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Christmas card by Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[{"text":"Christmas","id":"V86"}],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[{"text":"chair","id":"AAT37772"},{"text":"candle","id":"AAT37654"},{"text":"candlestick","id":"AAT37588"},{"text":"gift","id":"AAT138913"},{"text":"glass","id":"AAT43246"},{"text":"children","id":"x31526"}],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["E.554-2005"],"accessionNumberNum":"554","accessionNumberPrefix":"E","accessionYear":2005,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2025-10-07","recordCreationDate":"2005-12-22","availableToBook":false}}
