The subject is taken from the English folk song or poem 'Who killed Cock Robin?'\r\nThe first verse is as follows:\r\n\r\n\"Who killed Cock Robin?\r\nI, said the Sparrow,\r\nWith my bow and arrow,\r\nI killed Cock Robin.\"\r\n\r\nThe origins of this poem are obscure but it is often thought to refer to the legend of Robin Hood. The first published version appeared in 'Tommy Thumbs (Pretty) Song Book' (London, 1744).","physicalDescription":"A picture showing the dead robin surrounded by fairy figures in the branches of an apple tree in blossom; on the back a sektch of two people feeding a deer.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Fitzgerald, John Anster","id":"A15785"},"association":{"text":"artist","id":"AAT25103"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"Watercolour on card; on the back, pen and ink and wash with white heightening on paper","categories":[{"text":"Illustration","id":"THES48938"},{"text":"Paintings","id":"THES48917"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2006AM4365","2017KE5298","2021NB8293"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"LVLH (VA)","id":"THES49654"},"free":"","case":"PD","shelf":"310","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"watercolour","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Great Britain","id":"x32019"},"association":{"text":"painted","id":"x30138"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1860-1870","earliest":"1860-01-01","latest":"1870-12-31"},"association":{"text":"painted","id":"x30138"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Purchased with the assistance of the late Derek Roberts in memory of his father Charles Roberts","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"23.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"sight size","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"17.8","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"sight size","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"J.
