He became an acknowledged success from the early eighties with his unorthodox approach to fashion design. By creating garments with oversized proportions, unexpected textiles, unfinished seams and an often unisex approach, Yamomoto has challenged traditional conceptions of fashion. Yamamoto often favours black, a colour which he extolls as 'modest and arrogant at the same time'.
