The ground consists of alternating silver and brass yusen panels of blue-black and speckled aventurine green enamels. The ground is overlaid with a design of flowers, karakusa scrolls and butterflies in shaded yusen and shosen enamels. The stylised floral roundels are made up of convolvulus, paulownia and iris. The neck and area above the foot-rim have borders of stylised flowers and scrolls on a chakinseki ground. A silver plaque with the engraved four-character mark Kyoto Namikawa has been applied to the gilt base.
