The matt brown ground is decorated with a stylised silver yusen and moriage arrangement of scrolling thistles and leaves in shades of brown, purple and white enamel. The interior has a matt-green counter-enamel, which is also applied to the interior of the base plate. This has been inlaid with the gold yusen mark of the Ando Company. Ando cloisonné is often extremely difficult to date, compounded by the fact that the Company's records are rather sparse. The style of the decoration, which has a rather Art Deco feeling to it, suggests a date from the period 1920-40. However, since this style of decoration continued to be used until at least the 1960s, a later date cannot be ruled out.","physicalDescription":"Cloisonné enamel vase with a scrolling thistle design.
