The inner counter-enamel is of a matt dark brown. The vase is decorated with three carp swimming through ripples rendered in musen moriage on a pale blue enamel ground. The carp are fashioned in a combination of silver yusen and shosen with some low-relief moriage. A layer of clear enamel has been applied over the areas of the fish that are under water to emphasise the head that emerges from the water, creating a large ripple. While there is a very similar vase by Gonda Hirosuke in the collection of the Shosenkyo Cloisonné Museum in Kofu (Shosenkyo Ropeway Cloisonné Art Museum, pp20/21), the majority of comparable known pieces can be positively attributed to the Ando Company. See Coben & Ferster plate 124 for a pair of vases attributed to Ando Jubei, the left vase of which is almost identical to this piece.","physicalDescription":"Cloisonné vase decorated with carp.
