The portfolio narrates the traditional rites and rituals involved in courtship but also reflects more generally on the complex social relationships between men and women.\r\n\r\nAs with most Aboriginal visual art ‘Yilpinji’ draws on ‘dreamings’ – indigenous myths that have profound social implications and in which land and landscape play integral roles. Instead of human and animal figures the images depict tracking patterns to denote activities such as walking, resting and hunting. \r\n\r\nHere Susie Bootja Bootja shows a travelling couple resting after digging a waterhole in the bush. The picture shows small boomerang shapes (the marks left on the ground after sitting cross-legged), beside a black disc (the waterhole), while around them a beautiful pattern of lilac, blue and black-and-white flecks represents bush onion plants and stones. The loops of brilliant colour around the margin are distant hills bathed in late afternoon sun.","physicalDescription":"A brightly coloured, landscape format, image divided into two parts with colour applied in a pattern of spots; the right half predominantly lilac-pink, blue and green, the left half predominantly brown. Both parts with black spots, those in lower half are bigger. Round the margin loops of colour, red, black, brown and white; blue and red, and green, yellow and black. In the centre a black disk with two curved brown shapes to either side of it.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Bootja Bootja Napangarti, Susie","id":"A16937"},"association":{"text":"artist","id":"AAT25103"},"note":""},{"name":{"text":"Tremblay, Theo","id":"A16938"},"association":{"text":"printer","id":"x30811"},"note":""},{"name":{"text":"Clarke, Betty","id":"A16939"},"association":{"text":"printer","id":"x30811"},"note":""},{"name":{"text":"Clarke, Bruce","id":"A16940"},"association":{"text":"printer","id":"x30811"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"colour printing ink","id":"x35423"}],"techniques":[{"text":"screenprint","id":"x36290"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Colour screen print","categories":[{"text":"Aboriginal Artists","id":"THES393962"},{"text":"Myths & Legends","id":"THES49005"},{"text":"Prints","id":"THES48903"},{"text":"Landscapes","id":"THES250800"}],"styles":[{"text":"Australian Aboriginal","id":"AAT21862"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2009CT2231","2009CT3194"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"514A","id":"THES49773"},"free":"","case":"R","shelf":"12","box":"R"}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"print","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Australia","id":"x30016"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"2002","earliest":"2002-01-01","latest":"2002-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Purchased through the Julie and Robert Breckman Print Fund","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"56","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"image","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"76","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"image","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"printed to the edge of the paper","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"This print is not signed or dated"}],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Susie Bootja Bootja: Kaningarra, 2002.
