These five children of George III are shown in a palace interior, the two sisters kneeling and supporting an infant, probably Prince Adolphus, on a cushioned trolley. Prince Ernest is standing on the left and Prince Augustus is reclining on the floor between his brother and the trolley. A drum lies on the floor at the extreme left of the composition, and a small dog on the left foreground barks at the child seated on the trolley. The original mount has wash-line borders and is dated c. 1775. Signed by the artist and stamped with various collection marks and numbers.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Benjamin West","id":"A8979"},"association":{"text":"artist","id":"AAT25103"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"chalk","id":"AAT11727"},{"text":"paper","id":"AAT14109"}],"techniques":[{"text":"drawing","id":"AAT54196"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Black chalk, heightened with white","categories":[{"text":"Portraits","id":"THES48906"},{"text":"Drawings","id":"THES48966"},{"text":"Royalty","id":"THES48899"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2006AF4081","2017JU4138"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"LVLH (VA)","id":"THES49654"},"free":"","case":"PD","shelf":"333","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"drawings","id":"AAT33973"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Britain","id":"x32019"},"association":{"text":"drawn","id":"x30545"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"ca. 1775","earliest":"1770-01-01","latest":"1779-12-31"},"association":{"text":"drawn","id":"x30545"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"10","unit":"in","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"Drawing","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"13.375","unit":"in","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"Drawing","note":""},{"dimension":"Height","value":"12.125","unit":"in","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"Original mount","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"15.5","unit":"in","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"Original mount","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"Dimensions taken from departmental notes","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"B West","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"Signed with the mark of the collection of Sir John Charles Robinson (1824-1913), Director of the South Kensington Museum (Lugt 1433).
