It had been donated for sale by one of the Trustees who had been given it by Henry Morris, Chief Education Officer for Cambridgeshire in the 1920s and 1930s. Morris brought modern art into local schools and colleges.  He was in touch with many European artists and architects and through his assistance many were able to come to Britain to escape persecution in Hitler's Germany.
