Responding to specific locations in the Museum, the architects explored themes such as study, work, play, performance and contemplation. Seven of the proposals were then selected for construction at full-scale.\r\n\r\nThese projects promoted an attitude to architecture where to 'dwell' meant something more than simply to find shelter. Each building invited the participation of the viewer. These immersive environments reawakened people's ability to inhabit architectural space on both a physical and an emotional level.\r\n\r\nThis climbing structure excavates our half-forgotten memories of childhood play and exploration. Ten ash trees will be cut along the length of their trunks and planted face to face. The resulting two rows will allow visitors to enter the 'interior space' of the trees. The branches will be handwoven and then grafted onto the tree stumps to form a delicate canopy that hangs over a soft play-surface.","physicalDescription":"Plywood and hardboard base; ten branches cut away on one side standing upright in two rows, connected with arched flexible branches, with a molded base, possibly of plaster, between the branches covered in small fragments of leaves.","artistMakerPerson":[],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Helen & Hard","id":"AUTH316294"},"association":{"text":"maker","id":"x40240"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"Young willow trees and dried leaves","categories":[{"text":"Architecture","id":"THES48993"}],"styles":[{"text":"Contemporary","id":"x31258"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2010EF8014","2010EF8013","2010EF8012","2010EF8011","2010EF7982","2010EF7981"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"LVLD","id":"THES49658"},"free":"","case":"SB9","shelf":"SH1","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"architectural models","id":"x44244"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Stavanger","id":"x41085"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"2009","earliest":"2009-01-01","latest":"2009-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"280","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"210","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Depth","value":"210","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Model for 1:1 Architects Build Small Spaces exhibition, 'Ratatosk' by Helen and Hard, Stavanger, 2009.","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"Thomas, Abraham, 1<u>:1 Architects Build Small Spaces</u>, London: V&amp;A Publishing, 2010.
