This outfit was displayed in the Streetstyle exhibition held at the V&A in 1994-5, noting:\r\n\r\n\"The clothes were absolutely not an end in themselves. Noone discussed them or seemingly took an interest in them. We wore practical, cheap and comfortable clothes for active campaigning. We wore very little make up and eschewed conventional notions of young women in the 1950s through approroation of loose and comfortable men's clothing. It needs to be remembered that it did not take much then, either in dress or politicial terms, to create a public shock.\"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Skirt, black and white flecked tweed, Great Britain, 1950s","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"Surfers, Soulies, Skinheads & Skaters : Subcultural Style from the Forties to the Nineties","id":"AUTH352425"},"details":"","free":"Described in the exhibition publication, part of the outfit called 'Young British Radical UK 1958-63'."}],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"Ready to wear","id":"THES48866"},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["T.975-1994"],"accessionNumberNum":"975","accessionNumberPrefix":"T","accessionYear":1994,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2025-04-08","recordCreationDate":"2011-01-26","availableToBook":true}}
