This small drawing, on the other hand, was made during a journey home from visiting a friend near Ipswich.  Many of Constable's drawings from 1815 centre on Suffolk, no doubt because he spent half the year there looking after his ailing father.","physicalDescription":"A pencil drawing of a ship, with sails furled, at anchor on a riverbank. His mother died early this year and he was in Suffolk in May.  He left London again for Suffolk on 6 July and remained there most of the year, being detained during December by his father’s serious illness.\r\n\r\n[G Reynolds, 1973, p. 106]","briefDescription":"Drawing of shipping near Ipswich, by John Constable","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"","id":""},"details":"","free":"<i>Catalogue of the Constable Collection</i>, Graham Reynolds, Victoria and Albert Museum, London: HMSO, 1973, pp. 106, 108"}],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[{"text":"Ipswich","id":"x34391"},{"text":"Suffolk","id":"x29440"}],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[{"text":"ship","id":"AAT82981"}],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["308-1888"],"accessionNumberNum":"308","accessionNumberPrefix":"","accessionYear":1888,"otherNumbers":[{"type":{"text":"Reynolds catalogue no.","id":"THES50402"},"number":"139, plate 119"}],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2025-04-16","recordCreationDate":"2005-10-13","availableToBook":false}}
