Both worked for the Russian Imperial Ballet. Nicolai became an important teacher and after leaving the Imperial Ballet in 1914 went on to teach dance in Russia, Paris and London, where he eventually settled. Sergei, regarded as the greater choreographer and perceived as the natural successor to Pavel Gerdt as the Imperial Ballet's Premier danseur noble, died by suicide, aged 30. \n\r\nThe brothers worked together to produce caricatures of fellow dancers, choreographers and musicians at the Russian Imperial Ballet.\n\nLubov [Lyubov] Egorova (1880-1972) was born in St Petersburg and studied at the Imperial Ballet School. Under Enrico Cecchetti she was a leading dancer at the Mariinsky Theatre, although only promoted to ballerina in 1914. She took part in the 1909 Faser tour to Eastern Europe during which she danced a pas de deux choreographed by Legat, as well as Lise in <i>The Magic Flute</i>, performed at the Theatre des Champs Elysses, Paris, and was the second Aurora in the Ballets Russes'<i> The Sleeping Princess</i> (1921-22) in London. She became an influential teacher of ballet in Paris, opening her own school in 1923.","physicalDescription":"Caricature of L. Egorova by Nicolai and Sergei Legat.
