It was created by its charismatic leader, Ettore Sottsass Jr., for the second Memphis collection - a group of objects that saw the collective moving from the limited repertoire of the original 1981 collection which consisted of laminated furniture and metal lamps, into more luxurious materials and small scale domestic wares. These included not only silver plate (other examples were designed by Andrea Branzi and Peter Shire) but also ceramics, glass and marble.","physicalDescription":"Tazza of electroplated nickel silver, the base, supports and the top secured by brass screws. The base, a circular plate supported on a narrow, straight wall. The six supports placed equidistantly on the base are made up of tubular section, cut at an angle and assembled to form a zig-zag pattern. The top a plain circular sheet with a narrow lip and flared, everted rim.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Sottsass, Ettore (Jr)","id":"A920"},"association":{"text":"designer","id":"x36960"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Rossi and Arcandi","id":"A36686"},"association":{"text":"maker","id":"x40240"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"Nickel silver","id":"AAT242125"},{"text":"silver","id":"AAT11029"},{"text":"brass","id":"AAT10946"}],"techniques":[{"text":"electroplating","id":"AAT54000"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Electroplated nickel silver, secured by brass nuts and bolts.","categories":[{"text":"Eating","id":"THES48963"},{"text":"Food vessels & Tableware","id":"THES48952"},{"text":"Metalwork","id":"THES48920"}],"styles":[{"text":"Post Modern","id":"AAT22208"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"MET","id":"THES48599"},"images":["2010EM3894"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"002","id":"THES335822"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"002","id":"THES335822"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Tazza","id":""}],[{"text":"Liner","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Vicenza","id":"x37729"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1982","earliest":"1982-01-01","latest":"1982-12-31"},"association":{"text":"designed","id":"x29338"},"note":""},{"date":{"text":"ca.1982-1985","earliest":"1977-01-01","latest":"1986-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"29.3","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Diameter","value":"36.2","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"'Ettore Sottsass'","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"Signed underneath the base"}],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Tazza, electroplated nickel silver, 'Murmansk' designed by Ettore Sottsass Jr. for Memphis, Vicenza, Italy, 1982, made by Rossi & Arcand.","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"ed.
