The folio was formerly bound in an album compiled for the emperor Shah Jahan (1628-1658). The design is extremely unusual but is similar to one on another folio from the same dispersed album, now in the Chester Beatty Library in Dublin. On the other side of the Dublin page, the illustration completes the V&A's composition by depicting Humayun's son Akbar at the centre, handing the crown to Shah Jahan, while Jahangir looks on.\r\nThe pages belong to a group commonly known as the \"Minto Album\", named after one of the Earls of Minto who formerly owned it.","physicalDescription":"Album page, opaque watercolour and gold on paper. The page is filled with scrolling and interlacing lines bearing leaves and stylised palmettes, all in gold, with a large bifurcated leaf outlined with fine black lines interrupted at intervals with knots and interlocking leaves. Another complex interlocking motif above it is similarly outlined with a fine black line.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"opaque watercolour","id":"x35013"},{"text":"gold","id":"AAT11021"},{"text":"paper","id":"AAT14109"}],"techniques":[{"text":"painted","id":"AAT54216"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Painted in opaque watercolour and gold on paper","categories":[{"text":"Bonita Trust Indian Paintings Cataloguing Project","id":"THES263148"}],"styles":[{"text":"Mughal","id":"AAT18939"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"SSEA","id":"THES48598"},"images":["2013GB1033","2006AT7706"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"005","id":"THES403709"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"album page","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Mughal Empire","id":"THES262021"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"ca. 1630","earliest":"1625-01-01","latest":"1634-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[{"object":{"text":"IM.8-1925","id":"O17093"},"association":""}],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"38.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"page","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"26.1","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"page","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"Half Imperial Mount (Portrait)","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Design painted on paper of flowers and other motifs borne on scrolling lines, some of the motifs outlined with fine black lines, Mughal, ca. 1630","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"","id":""},"details":"","free":"Susan Stronge, Painting for the Mughal Emperor.
