The son of a Baloch ruler of Kech, Balochistan, Punnu fell in love with Sassi, the adopted daughter of a washerman from Bhambore village in Sindh. Punnu proposed to marry Sassi and after some trials was permitted to marry Sassi. Sadly, Punnu's family was opposed to the marriage but when direct threats didn't work to dissuade Punnu, they reverted to devious methods. At the wedding celebrations Punnu's brothers plied him with alcohol until finally they were able to carry the intoxicated Punnu away to Kech on a camel. \r\n\r\nAn inscription in Nastaliq on the top edge of the print ascribes the print to the printing press of Bhai Vasava Singh located in Bazar Mai Sewan, Amritsar.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"Coloured woodblock print","categories":[{"text":"Myths and legends","id":"THES49005"},{"text":"Woodcuts","id":"THES267451"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"SSEA","id":"THES48598"},"images":["2013GM5131"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"004","id":"THES403793"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Woodcut","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Amritsar","id":"x31116"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"late 19th century","earliest":"1850-01-01","latest":"1899-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by Rudyard Kipling Esq., Bateman's, Burwash, Sussex","dimensions":[],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"حسب فرمایش بهای وساوا سنگه تاجه تاحیر کتب بازار مای سیوان ","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"(printed) in accordance with the wishes of Bhai Vasava Singh, bookseller, Bazar Mai Sewan","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"Written in Nastaliq script at the top of the page, in the middle "}],"objectHistory":"Part of an album, containing 196 prints, paintings and pen and pencil drawings together with 37 loose pages of paintings, calligraphic drawings, and outline pen drawings.
