Known as an <i>ein-gyi</i> this example is embroidered in a quilted yellow silk displaying the wave and twisted rope patterns typical of Burmese design. It would have formed an ensemble, as shown, when worn with a <i>pah-soe</i> (a voluminous wrapped and draped) skirt. The decorative element of the body mainly consists of narrow verticle stripes of simple zig-zag acheik patterns; the bands round the neck, the arms at the shoulder and wrist, down the front and along the lower edge, are filled with a more elaborate rolling wave acheik patterns and twisted rope designs.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"cotton","id":"AAT14067"},{"text":"silk thread","id":"x30127"}],"techniques":[{"text":"weaving","id":"AAT53642"},{"text":"quilting","id":"AAT53656"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Cotton, embroidered and hand-quilted with yellow silk","categories":[{"text":"Textiles","id":"THES48885"},{"text":"Womenswear","id":"THES49044"},{"text":"India Museum","id":"THES286062"}],"styles":[{"text":"Konbaung","id":"x30379"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"SSEA","id":"THES48598"},"images":["2006AT8854","2006BC6573"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"010","id":"THES390080"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Jacket","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Burma","id":"x30037"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"early 1860s","earliest":"1860-01-01","latest":"1865-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Length","value":"58","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"shoulder to hem","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"35.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"across shoulders","note":""},{"dimension":"Length","value":"57","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"sleeves","note":""},{"dimension":"Circumference","value":"64","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"Waist (measured inside garment)","note":"Measured by Conservation"},{"dimension":"Circumference","value":"86","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"Chest (measured inside garment)","note":"Measured by Conservation"},{"dimension":"Length","value":"35","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"Nape-waist","note":"Measured by Conservation"},{"dimension":"Length","value":"61.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"Nape-hem","note":"Measured by Conservation"},{"dimension":"Width","value":"30.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"Across back","note":"Measured by Conservation"},{"dimension":"Length","value":"57","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"Sleeve","note":"Measured by Conservation"},{"dimension":"Circumference","value":"17.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"Cuff","note":"Measured by Conservation"}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"Acquired from Burma by the Indian Museum in 1867.","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Burmese man's white cotton ein-gyi.
