Pugin has not drawn this object very accurately; he has omitted some parts and changed the general proportions. The same is true in his diary of a grotesque animal at the foor of the so-called Bysantine Cross. There may be two reasons for this; the first, and most probable, is that Pugin drew these objects very rapidly and in pencil, and then subsequently inked them in, and could not remember all the details accurately; the second is that he may have wished to adapt these objects in ways which corresponded more closely to his own style.","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"One of twenty sketches of metalwork, woodwork, textiles, architectural details and plans at Noyon, Mons, Namur, Angres, and Tongres, by A.W.N.
