Held at the Egyptian Hall in Piccadilly in 1876, it featured paintings by well known scenic artists, including William Telbin, of scenes along the way via Paris, Mont Cenis, Brindisi and the Suez Canal. There were scenes taken from a boat along the Hooghly River or the Bhāgirathi-Hooghly, and the Ganges from Calcutta to Benares, and scenes of native Indian life including Nautch girls, snake charming, 'gorgeous illuminations', tiger hunting and 'grand Durbars of the native princes'.\n\nOne of William Hamilton's previous 'excursions' was a trip ac ross the Atlantic, held at London's Agricultural Hall, Islington, in 1874. A contemporary account reproduced on a poster for that, held by the British Library, notes: 'The entertainment is in the form of a panorama of capital illustrative pictures on a very large scale, accompanied by a chatty description and diversified by some excellent appropriate singing and the music of a very good orchestra.'
