The photograph on the poster is of Isabel Tamen and Kenneth Tharp in Rikud and the photograph is by Anthony Crickmay. Crickmay preferred to work in his studio with the dancers to get best results. For the photoshoot, which produced the most iconic image of the last years of London Contemporary Dance Theatre (LCDT), he was frustrated by the presence of the choreographers, Liat Dror and Nir Ben Gal, in his view 'interfering'. The two dancers portrayed had successful careers as dancers, not only with LCDT but also with Richard Alston and Kim Brandstrup respectively, and both eventually became significant administrators in the arts. \n\nAnthony Crickmay (1937-2020) began his career as an assistant to the Austrian portrait photographer, Lotte Meitner-Graf, who had a studio in London's Bond Street in the late 1940s. Crickmay set up his own studio in 1958 where he built up a high-profile range of sitters, including members of the royal family, and developed an international reputation as a photographer of theatre, opera, and especially dance. \r\n\r\n","physicalDescription":"Poster advertising London Contemporary Dance Theatre at Sadler's Wells.
