The librettist and composer were not named on this hanging card, although they were by 1869 on hanging cards for the German Reeds' run of Cox and Box.\r\n\r\nIn 1894 Richard D’Oyly Carte needed pieces for the Savoy Theatre following the closure of Utopia Limited. Since Gilbert was working with Frank Osmond Carr on His Excellency, Carte turned to Sullivan and Burnand who revamped The Contrabandista for the Savoy as The Chieftain, adding a second act.
