Rupert D’Oyly Carte had taken over the running of the company in 1913 after the death of his stepmother Helen Carte (1852-1913). D'Oyly Carte was on special duties for the Navy but still managed to bring the company back to London after 10 years for a 14-week run at the Prince’s Theatre, from 29 September 1919 to 31 January 1920.
