They commemorated a series of lectures, masterclasses and performances relating to five types of traditional Japanese theatre, dance and music. Performers calling themselves the Classical Performing Arts Friendship Mission of Japan spent five weeks performing on the campus of the University of California, Los Angeles, and across the country as part of the UCLA Asian Performing Arts Institute. \r\n\r\nNihon buyo is a quiet type of Japanese dance performed to the accompaniment of a Shamisen, or Japanese lute. It originated in the early Edo period in the early 17th century, two of its most characteristic dances being the Kabuki dance, and the Kamigata-mai. The more dynamic Kabuki dance borrowed stylistically from Kabuki theatre, while Kamigata-mai, with its more restrained, shuffling movements, developed in Kamigata, the Kyoto and Osaka regions.","physicalDescription":"Pictorial and typographic.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Yokoo, Tadanori","id":"A16520"},"association":{"text":"designers","id":"AAT25190"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Toppan Printing","id":"A24616"},"association":{"text":"printers (people)","id":"AAT25732"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"printing ink","id":"AAT187371"},{"text":"paper","id":"x30308"}],"techniques":[{"text":"printing","id":"AAT53319"},{"text":"offset lithography","id":"AAT192900"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Printing ink on paper","categories":[{"text":"Entertainment & Leisure","id":"THES48959"},{"text":"Prints","id":"THES48903"},{"text":"Posters","id":"THES252963"},{"text":"Advertising","id":"THES49001"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"T&P","id":"THES48602"},"images":["2015HV0624"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"009","id":"THES345360"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"posters","id":"AAT27221"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Japan","id":"x29399"},"association":{"text":"printed","id":"x46159"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1981","earliest":"1981-01-01","latest":"1981-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"103.1","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"poster","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"72.9","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"poster","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"Stamped with Theatre Museum, V.A.M. stamp.","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":""}],"objectHistory":"Associated Production: Nihon Buyo.
