In late November 1926 they returned from an eighteen-month tour to Asia with a troupe of forty Denishawn dancers, and performed from 6th to 10th December at the Los Angeles Philharmonic Theatre, on the northeast corner of Fifth and Olive streets. St. Denis was billed as 'the Rhythm of the World', with other publicity advertising the troupe's 'gorgeous costumes', 'mgnificent scenery', 'a new Algerian dance drama', the 'Famous Spanish Ballet', and the symphony orchestra to which they danced.\n\nThis poster notes that the company was presented by L. E. Behymer. Lynden Ellsworth Behymer (1862-1947), an independent music and theatrical impresario in California for sixty years, brought Los Angeles its most important operatic productions by the National Grand Opera Company, organised the first symphony orchestra in Los Angeles, and did much to put the city on the map as a centre for the arts.","physicalDescription":"Pictorial and typographic advertisement poster with a colour illustration of Ruth St. Denis in classical-style costume","artistMakerPerson":[],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Hegeman Print","id":"A32448"},"association":{"text":"printers (people)","id":"AAT25732"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"printing ink","id":"AAT187371"}],"techniques":[{"text":"printing","id":"AAT53319"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"","categories":[{"text":"Entertainment & Leisure","id":"THES48959"},{"text":"Dance","id":"THES252984"},{"text":"Posters","id":"THES252963"},{"text":"Advertising","id":"THES49001"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"T&P","id":"THES48602"},"images":["2014HC7362"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"008","id":"THES345255"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"posters","id":"AAT27221"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"New York","id":"x29030"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1926","earliest":"1926-01-01","latest":"1926-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"55.9","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"poster","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"35.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"poster","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"Stamped with Theatre Museum, V.A.M. stamp.","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":""}],"objectHistory":"Associated Production: Dancers: Ruth St. Denis, Ted Shawn (Denishawn Dancers) Philharmonic Auditorium, New York, USA. 6.12.1926-11.12.1926.
