Choreographed by Léonide Massine to music by Serge Prokofiev Le Pas d'Acier was first performed by the Ballets Russes at the Théâtre Sarah Bernhardt, Paris, on 7 June 1927. It was first staged in London at the Princes Theatre on 4 July 1927.\r\n\r\nLe Pas d'Acier only received 24 performances (12 each in Paris and London). It was a complex production, and this prevented it from being toured. The final performance was at the Théâtre Sarah Bernhardt on 20 May 1929. Described as a constructivist ballet in two tableaux, it presented scenes which summarised aspects of Russian life in the early days of the Soviet Union. The first represented 'stories and legends of the countryside', the second 'the mechanism of the factories'.\n\nPhotographs by 'Sasha' of the dancers posed in their costumes show that Tchernicheva's costume was completed by a light knee-length dress, knee-length laced boots and a dark neck scarf.","physicalDescription":"Costume designed by Georgy Yakulov/ Georges Iakouloff and worn by Lubov Tchernicheva in the second tableaux of the ballet Le Pas d'Acier, 1927.
