It was composed by Louis Joseph Ferdinand Hérold (1791-1833) with a libretto by Theaulon de Lambert, (1787-1841).\r\n\r\nThis design appears to be part of a series of prints published by Martinet, Rue du Coq, of which this example is labelled as number 452. It is part of the Harry Beard Collection.","physicalDescription":"This full length coloured engraving shows two actors, both dressed in costumes inspired by traditional Chinese dress. Both have shaved heads (though one wears a red and yellow striped hat) and long black moustaches. The man on the left is dressed in a long dark blue tunic trimmed and lined in deep green, which is belted at hip level. This is worn over a white tunic decorated with motifs in blue, red and yellow, and stops at the ankle revealing a pair of dark blue slippers with curled toes. The man on the right is dressed in a tunic of a similar shape (wide sleeved and reaching to knee level), his is a deep red trimmed with green and is worn over a pale yellow tunic which reaches to the ground.
