It takes place in ancient Rome, but the ideas and themes were strongly influenced by the age of Louis XIV, most notably the establishment of royal power over the nobility. \r\n\r\nThis design was created by Adrien Joly (1776-1839) and appears to be part of a series of prints published by Martinet, Rue du Coq, of which this example is labelled as number 58.
