The version at London's English Opera House, arranged and adapted by W. Hawes, was not a critical success. Miss H. Cawse played Lucille, the heroine, disguised as the sailor Pierotle, desperately in love with the hero Dorimante, the son of a Genoese pirate. Elizabeth Feron played Claretta, who wins the affections of Dorimante while masquerading as a Countess. \n\nThe critic of <i>The Harmonica, A Journal of Music</i>, 1828, decided: 'The prevailing character of the opera is feebleness. We cannot mention a single air that produced, or was likely to produce, any effect... Weigl throughout imitates the lighter compositions of Mozart, particularly in the accompaniments, but how inferior to the model we cannot describe.'  Miss Cawse was judged: 'correct and pleasing' while Madame Feron: 'anything in the world but agreeable.' He decided that Messrs.
