In the early days British manufacturers modelled their bears of the German teddy bear, however this has gradually changed over the years as designers began to experiment with different designs and materials. The manufacturers name on this bear, 'Aneeta' is not a well known one. Many early companies did not survive for long, which is perhaps why there is not much information on this manufacturer. Today only two of the major teddy names are still making bears, these are Merrythought, founded in 1930 and Dean's.","physicalDescription":"Fully jointed (head, arms and legs) teddy bear of a light golden mohair plush. A white ribbon is tied in a bow around the neck and a patch with the manufacturers name, 'Aneeta regd' is stitched on the bottom of the bears right foot. The eyes are brown and black plastic and the nose and mouth stitched with black wool. The pads on the hands and feet are light brown with highlights stitched on in black wool. The body is stuffed and the head with wood wool.","artistMakerPerson":[],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Aneeta","id":"A32253"},"association":{"text":"manufacturer","id":"x33306"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"linen material","id":"AAT14069"},{"text":"mohair","id":"AAT192989"}],"techniques":[{"text":"stuffing","id":"AAT231130"},{"text":"stitching","id":"AAT53660"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Stitched linen, wood wool and mohair plush","categories":[{"text":"Dolls & Toys","id":"THES48967"},{"text":"Children & Childhood","id":"THES48980"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"YVA","id":"THES48593"},"images":["2012FK3067","2012FK3068","2012FK3122","2012FK3123","2012FK3124"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"001","id":"THES324013"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"teddy bear","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Britain","id":"x32019"},"association":{"text":"manufactured","id":"x29350"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1930- 1950","earliest":"1930-01-01","latest":"1950-12-31"},"association":{"text":"manufactured","id":"x29350"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"44","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"23","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Depth","value":"15","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"'ANEETA / REGD.'","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"Sewn onto the bears right foot"}],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"This soft toy is from Daniel Agnew's collection. He is best known for running Christie's famous Teddy Bear auctions from 2000 to 2007, but his passion for Teddy Bears and all toys goes back much further than that. His mother is a well-respected antique dealer known throughout Britain. As a child he was fascinated with the bits and pieces that she bought home from her various buying trips. Daniel started to attend auctions and shows with her at the weekends and as a child of 9 or 10, what caught his eye most were the toys.","briefDescription":"Teddy bear, linen, wood wool and mohair plush, made by Aneeta, Britain, 1930-1950.","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["B.119-2010"],"accessionNumberNum":"119","accessionNumberPrefix":"B","accessionYear":2010,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2026-04-23","recordCreationDate":"2010-04-27","availableToBook":false}}
