Nixon, who was elected in 1968. In 1972, Nixon ran for re-election, defeating the Democrat George McGovern. The Nixon campaign slogan was \"Four More Years.\" This poster subverts the slogan, asking instead whether Americans really wanted four more years of Nixon presidency. Printed over Ron L. Haeberle's well-known and disturbing image of the My Lai massacre in Vietnam, the message creates a stark association between controversial American foreign policy and savage brutality. The image supplies its own answer to the leading question, implying that four more years under Nixon's administration could lead to further violence and subjugation. Later in 1972, Nixon's Watergate scandal emerged, eventually forcing the President to resign.","physicalDescription":"Landscape format poster. Photograph taken in Vietnam of the My Lai massacre, 1968. A sandy road, bordered by grass or reeds on both sides, stretches from foreground to some point beyond margin of image. On it lie the dead bodies of Vietnamese people including several children and babies. A caption across the top of the image reads \"Four More Years?' and again across the bottom.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Haeberle, Ron L.","id":"A7758"},"association":{"text":"photographer","id":"AAT25687"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Colorcraft, Inc.","id":"A15315"},"association":{"text":"printers","id":"x31107"},"note":""},{"name":{"text":"Artists and Writers' Protest","id":"A15317"},"association":{"text":"issued by","id":"x36339"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"paper","id":"x30308"},{"text":"ink","id":"AAT15012"},{"text":"printing ink","id":"AAT187371"}],"techniques":[{"text":"printing","id":"AAT53319"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Colour offset lithograph","categories":[{"text":"Prints","id":"THES48903"},{"text":"War","id":"THES257202"},{"text":"Posters","id":"THES252963"},{"text":"Death","id":"THES48970"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":[],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"LVLC (VA)","id":"THES49171"},"free":"","case":"3G","shelf":"DR3","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"poster","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"Yes-general","note":"War photography, dead children"}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"United States","id":"x29333"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1972","earliest":"1972-01-01","latest":"1972-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[{"object":{"text":"E.233-1985","id":"O75611"},"association":"Version"}],"creditLine":"Gift of the American Friends of the V&A; Gift to the American Friends by Leslie, Judith and Gabri Schreyer and Alice Schreyer Batko","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"63.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"96.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Poster by the Art Workers Coalition, using photography by Ronald Haeberle, \"Four More Years?\".
