In the late 1960s they created psychedelic posters for many of the English bands of the time, and decorated and advertised Nigel Waymouth's King's Road boutique, Granny Takes a Trip. They also designed for concerts held at the UFO club and Saville Theatre, and for underground magazine <i>Oz</i>. Their influences came from the decorative and eroticised designs of Art Nouveau, combined with the melting rainbow colours of LSD visions and pop art inspirations from the post-war media; traces of Disney, horror movie monsters and comic book characters and can often be seen hiding amongst the images.\r\n\r\nUFO club was run by John Hopkins, editor of underground newspaper International Times. At the beginning of June 1967, after much harrassment of the magazine by the police, he was imprisoned for drug offences. Police began to put pressure on UFO following this, and its lease was eventually revoked by the landlord. These concerts, featuring Crazy World of Arthur Brown, Soft Machine and the Liverpool Love Festival, were some of the last events at the Tottenham Court Road site before it moved to the Roundhouse and finally shut down in October 1967.","physicalDescription":"Printed colour poster in yellow, purple and gold, illustrated with psychedelic design, featuring nudes and butterflies.","artistMakerPerson":[],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Hapshash and the Coloured Coat","id":"A16610"},"association":{"text":"designer","id":"x36960"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"paper","id":"x30308"},{"text":"printing ink","id":"AAT187371"}],"techniques":[{"text":"screen printing","id":"AAT53281"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Screen print on paper","categories":[{"text":"Entertainment & Leisure","id":"THES48959"},{"text":"Posters","id":"THES252963"},{"text":"Advertising","id":"THES49001"}],"styles":[{"text":"Psychedelic","id":"AAT112743"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"T&P","id":"THES48602"},"images":["2014GY1891","2006AY2204","2006AU4832"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"002","id":"THES404996"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"posters","id":"AAT27221"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"London","id":"x28980"},"association":{"text":"designed","id":"x29338"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1967","earliest":"1967-01-01","latest":"1967-12-31"},"association":{"text":"designed","id":"x29338"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by Michael English","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"73.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"51.8","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"UFO COMING","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":""},{"content":"JUNE 16 CRAZY WORLD / OF ARTHUR BRWON / SOFT MACHINE / JUNE 23 LIVERPOOL LOVE / FESTIVAL","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":""},{"content":"Nigel Weymouth / M English","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"signed by artists in pen at bottom right of poster."}],"objectHistory":"Signed first pressing.","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Poster for The Crazy World of Arthur Brown at UFO, 16 and 23 June.
