Amongst their most notable works are their reworkings of Goya's etchings, notably <i>Los Caprichos</i> and <i>The Disasters of War</i> series, where they transformed the heads of the victims into clowns' or puppies' heads. They gave the title 'Insult to Injury' to these reworked prints. Here they have translated some of this imagery - in which figures from the Goya originals have been given the garishly painted faces of clowns - into a wallpaper pattern. As a further reference to historic precedents they have based their design on traditional toile de Jouy textiles, with their style of presenting the motifs as decorative vignettes.","physicalDescription":"Roll of wallpaper with image take from Goya's 'Disasters of War' modified with the addition of clowns' heads and so on.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Chapman, Jake","id":"A30768"},"association":{"text":"artist","id":"AAT25103"},"note":""},{"name":{"text":"Chapman, Dinos","id":"A30769"},"association":{"text":"artist","id":"AAT25103"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"printing ink","id":"AAT187371"}],"techniques":[{"text":"printed","id":"AAT53319"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Digital print on paper","categories":[{"text":"Wall coverings","id":"THES48878"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2011EY0964"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"514A","id":"THES49773"},"free":"","case":"SH45","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"wall-papers","id":"AAT37366"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"No","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"UK","id":"x29336"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"2009","earliest":"2009-01-01","latest":"2009-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Width","value":"52","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Length","value":"10","unit":"m","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Wallpaper, 'Insult to Injury', Jake and Dinos Chapman, UK, 2009.","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[{"text":"war","id":"x35624"},{"text":"wound","id":"x34924"},{"text":"clown","id":"AAT25660"}],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["E.180-2010"],"accessionNumberNum":"180","accessionNumberPrefix":"E","accessionYear":2010,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2026-05-27","recordCreationDate":"2010-02-16","availableToBook":false}}
