It depicts the host of acts presented by Bertram Mills at his annual Christmas circus at Olympia, which ran this season from the 22nd December 1931 to the 27th January 1932. Bertram Mills presented his first Olympia Circus from the 17th December 1920 to the 24th January 1921, and prided himself on presenting a 'Quality Show'. The sheer number of acts demonstrate that he didn't stint on quantity as well as quality. The acts depicted are Mitzirose Sisters; the Dal Paos troupe; Cilly Feindt, High School Rider; The Wallendas, high wire; The Walkmir Trio, perch act; Little Fred and his Footballing Dogs; Schumann's Horses; The Germain Troupe, equestrian trio; The Four Bronetts, clown entree; Mr. Mathies and his eleven Hagenbeck's Tigers; The Rieffenach Family; Gindl's Zebras and Mules; Max, Moritz and Akka; The Cleo Troupe; the Bon John Girls; The Olveras; and Señor Julio Xifra Diaz de Velasco, High School Rider, as well as several clowns.\n\n<i>The Tatler</i> reviewer, who would have been present on the opening night, noted the presence of Prince and Princess Arthur of Connaught and Lord and Lady Lonsdale in the in the royal box, and in the audience Tom Titt: 'covering sheets of paper with unintelligible hieroglyphics and in a blunt pencil' sketching the performers in action. Bertram Mills was an expert showman who attracted huge audiences and influential people to his Olympia shows, including in the early 1950s the young Queen Elizabeth, Prince Phillip, Prince Charles and Princess Anne.
