This style of design featured abstract forms and shapes, and emerged from the Festival of Britain in 1951.  Mobile was produced using the familiar colour scheme for these designs - vivid reds and yellows as well as a grey-green colour for the background.  These patterns had a lasting influence on textile design in Britain throughout the 1950s, and the colourful designs were a welcome change from the dull colours used for textiles during the Second World War.","physicalDescription":"Three pieces of screen printed rayon satin, abstract 'mobile' design on dark green ground, repeat 60 x 60cm","artistMakerPerson":[],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Heal's Wholesale & Export Limited","id":"A15206"},"association":{"text":"manufacturers","id":"AAT25230"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"rayon","id":"AAT14059"}],"techniques":[{"text":"screen printing","id":"AAT53281"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"screen printed rayon satin","categories":[{"text":"Textiles","id":"THES48885"},{"text":"Interiors","id":"THES48933"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"T&F","id":"THES48601"},"images":["2006BF7432","2012FH8826","2018KT4944","2018LC9811","2018LG5746"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"022","id":"THES328235"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"006","id":"THES305954"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"001","id":"THES307342"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Furnishing fabric","id":""}],[{"text":"Furnishing fabric","id":""}],[{"text":"Furnishing fabric","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"United Kingdom","id":"x29336"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1954","earliest":"1954-01-01","latest":"1954-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by Heal's Wholesale and Export Ltd","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Length","value":"198.1","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"CIRC.208-1954","note":"converted from department register"},{"dimension":"Width","value":"127","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"CIRC.208-1954","note":"converted from department register"},{"dimension":"Length","value":"76.2","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"CIRC.208A&B-1954","note":"converted from department register"},{"dimension":"Width","value":"63.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"CIRC.208A&B-1954","note":"converted from department register"}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Furnishing fabric, screen printed rayon, 1954, British, designed by June Lyon for Heals. \"Mobile\"","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["CIRC.208-1954","CIRC.208B-1954","CIRC.208A-1954"],"accessionNumberNum":"208","accessionNumberPrefix":"CIRC","accessionYear":1954,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE","Furnishing fabric [1]","Furnishing fabric [2]","Furnishing fabric [3]"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2025-05-21","recordCreationDate":"2005-08-02","availableToBook":true}}
