Stickers like these are a part of the street art phenomenon, usually stuck on walls alongside stencil work and tag graffiti, in urban areas. The simplicity and cheapness of the medium makes it attractive for young artists, and stickers can be seen not only at graffiti sites, but on public transport and advertising posters. \r\n\r\nBanksy is perhaps the best-known graffiti artist working in Britain today, and his influence extends far beyond the urban environment. His stencils, often political, and underlined with humour, adorn walls from London to Barcelona. His most memorable stunts, or interventions, include hanging one of his own paintings at Tate Britain (which went undetected for hours) and mounting a stuffed rat at London’s Natural History Museum. Although most of his work pokes fun at royalty or religion, perhaps his most interesting work has been in the anti-war vein.","physicalDescription":"A white sticker with a black image within a red circle showing people running from a helicopter with lettering below the image reading AMERICANS WORKING OVERHEAD and in smaller type 018/BNK/5Y.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Banksy","id":"A15051"},"association":{"text":"artist","id":"AAT25103"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"Digital print sticker on Crack-Back plus paper","categories":[{"text":"Prints","id":"THES48903"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2006BJ8372"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"LVLC","id":"THES49171"},"free":"","case":"GG","shelf":"86","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Sticker","id":""}],[{"text":"print","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"United Kingdom","id":"x29336"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"ca. 2004","earliest":"1999-01-01","latest":"2008-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by Riikka Kuittinen","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"15","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"10.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"AMERICANS / WORKING / OVERHEAD / 018/BNK/5Y","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"Bottom of sticker"}],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Sticker by Banksy, British, ca. 2004.","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[{"text":"graffiti","id":"AAT15613"},{"text":"traffic signs","id":"AAT211849"}],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["E.388-2005"],"accessionNumberNum":"388","accessionNumberPrefix":"E","accessionYear":2005,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":["2010EF2942"],"recordModificationDate":"2025-04-08","recordCreationDate":"2005-07-13","availableToBook":false}}
