To make up for this loss, from 1872 to 1885 John Griffiths from the Bombay School of Art and seven Indian students spent every winter at the caves. The ceilings of the caves were meant to replicate the effect of a wooden, beamed and painted ceiling. \r\n\r\nThis painting is divided into eight sections. Each of the sections has a different design, some have a bunch of flowers, some have a bunch of fruit, two have geese and one has an elephant in it. The sections are separated by thick lines of geometric designs which represent the beams of a wooden roof. The central and left hand beam and have a fret motif which is very similar to European/ Greek motifs.
