She was never played with as Jane was too young for the doll at the time, but she has been treasured and well looked after.\r\n\r\nThe doll is made by a north London company Doll Industries Ltd, who registered the trade name Doll-In-Doll in 1948.  They produced hard plastic dolls and included ones with hand assisted walking mechanisms and ma-ma voice boxes.","physicalDescription":"The bridal doll is of a hard plastic in a fleshy pink colour, her body is jointed at the arms, legs and neck.  She has a walking motion, as her legs move back and forward her head swings from side to side.  She has holes in her back that indicates a speaking box but this no longer works.  Her face has a light amount of blue eye shadow and bright red lips.  Her body shape is that of a teenage doll for the period with small breasts, but she still looks childlike.\r\n\r\nShe is dressed in bridal wear which includes, white socks, shoes, knickers, veil and hat.  Her dress is trimmed with lace and gold.  Her hair is blond and set in a tight style.  She has plastic snow drops on either side of her hair.  She also has a corsage on her right wrist, which consists of a pink flower and snow drops held in place with a ribbon.  She has a gold chain around her neck held together with a safety pin.  There is a thin hair net holding her hair in place and this was probably part of the original packaging.","artistMakerPerson":[],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Doll Industries Ltd","id":"A28915"},"association":{"text":"manufacturer","id":"x33306"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"plastic","id":"AAT14570"},{"text":"fabric","id":"AAT162391"}],"techniques":[{"text":"moulding","id":"AAT53134"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Plastic and fabric","categories":[{"text":"Children & Childhood","id":"THES48980"},{"text":"Dolls & Toys","id":"THES48967"},{"text":"Marriage","id":"THES48921"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"YVA","id":"THES48593"},"images":[],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"002","id":"THES324080"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Doll","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"London","id":"x28980"},"association":{"text":"manufactured","id":"x29350"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"ca. 1958","earliest":"1953-01-01","latest":"1962-12-31"},"association":{"text":"manufactured","id":"x29350"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by Jane May","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"58","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"21","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"D.I.L\r\nmade in England","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":""}],"objectHistory":"The doll was brought for the donor Jane (born 1955) for her third birthday as a present from her father. The doll was know as Patricia.  It was never played with as her father shortly left the family and it was too upsetting.  She was also too young for the doll.  Her mother put it away to get out when she was old enough to play with it, but she was then forgotten about until the family moved when Jane was forteen.  They had moved house and then remembered the packed away doll. Luckily she was returned to them.  Jane has kept the doll safe since.","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Patricia, hard plastic bridal doll made by Doll Industries Ltd in England ca 1958.","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["B.241-2009"],"accessionNumberNum":"241","accessionNumberPrefix":"B","accessionYear":2009,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2025-07-29","recordCreationDate":"2009-10-21","availableToBook":false}}
