A photocopy on file of a dispatch dated 25 January 1831 from Lord Aberdeen to Sir Robert Gordon, ambassador in  Constantinople, asks Sir Robert to present the box to Mr Sarell 'as a  Testimonial of the of His Majesty's gracious approbation of the services which  your Excellency has reported Mr Sarell to have rendered to the interests of His  Majesty's trading subjects during the absence of the British Embassy from  Constantinople'.  Although George IV died in June 1830, the box is mounted  with a miniature of George rather than William IV, suggesting perhaps that the  gift was a presentation from stock.  The miniature is after a painting executed  by Sir Thomas Lawrence when George was Prince Regent.","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Varicoloured gold box, set with a miniature of King George IV with the Royal cipher on the underside, maker's mark for John Northam, England, London, ca.1821-30\r\nRed leather case for gold box by John Northam, London, 1821-30","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[{"text":"George IV (King of Great Britain)","id":"N726"}],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[{"text":"monograms","id":"AAT10038"}],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["LOAN:MET ANON.2:1-1981","LOAN:MET ANON.2:2-1981"],"accessionNumberNum":"2","accessionNumberPrefix":"LOAN:MET ANON","accessionYear":1981,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2025-05-16","recordCreationDate":"2005-07-05","availableToBook":false}}
